Drake Battle Tank - 29/01/2012

I have done a little more work on the Drake Battle Tank. I'm just adding the sponsons now. They are double sponsons - so 2 weapon mounts in each - that will be fitted with anti-personnel weapons. These weapons are controlled by the vehicle's Automated Fire System to defend against infantry, allowing the crew to focus on engaging enemy armour and fortifications with the tank's main weapon.

Drake Battle Tank - 23/11/2011

I have started working on the final version of my Drake Battle Tank for the Demiurg. This final model is a fair bit smaller than the prototype that I made up.

The main hull of the Drake Battle Tank has similar dimensions as the Land Raider (including sponsons) and has an upper-hull that extends higher.

The Drake is armed with a twin-linked ion cannon as standard but can be upgraded to a twin-linked Rapier Laser Destroyer (as shown). The Drake also has four defensive weapons, two on each side of the upper hull, that are fired by an Automated Targeting System. The Automated targeting System can pick separate targets with the defensive weapons but has a lower BS than the main weapon. I still need to make the mountings for the defensive weapons.

Building a US Rifle Platoon for Focused Firepower

Here we talk about how to build a US Platoon for Focused Firepower.

The best models we found for this were the Valiant Miniatures ‘American GIs 1942/44’ boxed set.
Below we have posted a picture of the back of the box, showing its contents and have suggested suitable model representations of the various troopers present within the platoon.

Many of the figures in the US box are convertable using different arm options. These Convertable Troopers can be used for medics, radio operators, etc.

*Converting the grenade launcher is tricky. Its basically a grenade stuck in the end of the rifle. Tezzer (our resident US-player) reprsented them by painting the tip of their gun barrels white.

Demiurg - Sculpting - Size Comparison

I decided to do a size comparison between a Hasslefree Miniatures Grymn and a Games Workshop Imperial. So here it is. I think it's about what I wanted; chunkier than the Grymn, muscular but not fat, and shoulder height to a GW human (excluding the helmet).

Demiurg - Sculpting

I have now started attempting to do some sculpting.

My ideal Demiurg, or sci-fi dwarves in general, are; shoulder hight to humans, muscular, not fat and not necessarily bearded. Not finding any that fit what I wanted I've now started to sculpt for myself. I'm nowhere near confident enough to start from scratch so I searched around for something that I could use as the base for the models then sculpt over it. I found the Avatars of War Dwarf Berzerkers to be perfect for me. They are the right height, muscular and come as separate components; head, body, legs and arms.

I've posted a picture of the back-cover of the Classic German Infantry Box from Valiant Minatures, along with a key to help people organise their troops into platoon-strength force along the same lines as I did. This guide will tell you how to create a basic German Rifle Platoon using the 1943 organisation.

As the worldpolitical situation crumbled and broke out into all-out war, Sir Dudley Poundreturned from retirement to take command of the Britannic Atlantic Fleet. SirPound is known as a belligerent and stubborn commander; he believes he knowsbetter than anyone how to wage war at sea, and he may well be correct. Hisunwavering confidence and brisk nature have made his strategies seeminglyinvulnerable to the bureaucracy and scheming of the politicians that so oftenhinders other commander’s efforts.

Sir Dudley is well liked by those who serve him for his clear and orders andthorough tactical knowledge, as well as for his long and honourable navalcareer. His peers, however, are less favourable in their opinions; he suffersfrom painful hip degeneration, making sleeping difficult, and this often causeshim to drift off to sleep during meetings. The pain and sleeplessness caused byhis poor health leads to him often being short tempered.

He was onceawoken during the night when his ship came under attack by a Prussian fleet. Soangry was he at being woken from a rare peaceful sleep that he was not simplycontent with forcing the attackers to disengage, but continued to chase thefleeing vessels until every last one was sent below the waves as shell-riddenhusks.

Unknown evento his superiors, though they are few, Sir Dudley Pound is inflicted with anaggressive brain tumour that will one day cripple then kill him. Only hispersonal physician knows of his condition and will not reveal it until hisAdmiral retires or is killed in action.

Until theday comes when the tumour takes his ability from him, Sir Dudley pound will putevery effort into defeating the enemies of Britannia. His death will be aterrible loss to this great nation.

Sir DudleyPound is so renowned for his withering bombardments that the word ‘pound’ (andits derivatives) entered common usage as a verb; cognate with strike, beat,pummel, etc. The word came into usage due to sailors’ habit of using the phrase‘taking a pounding’ in regards to receiving a heavy bombardment.

I have been working on a Skyhammer AA Gun. This is essentially three Earthshaker Cannons on an anti-aircraft mount. For this model I have decided to make it self-propelled; mounting it on an AFV. The weapon is turret mounted so can turn to any direction. This self-propelled gun is a variant of the Wyrm Heavy Battle Tank (I still need to build one).

Demiurg: Battlefleet Gothic Space Station

Some more images of the space station components I am working on. I will be calling this a Demiurg Outpost.

As shown in the last post this is the basic layout for the Space Station. A central core with 'arms' extending out from it. There will be several upgrades that can be added to this layout or replace the weapon arms. Cores can be stacked on top of each other so that larger space stations can be created. As you will see I have now added the detailing to the core.

This is the Command Upgrade. This upgrade does not replace the weapon arms. Only one command upgrade can be taken, no matter how many cores are in the outpost. The command upgrade allows and friendly Demiurg ships within 45cm to use the Outpost's Leadership.

Torpedo Upgrade: The torpedo upgrade can be taken in addition to other upgrades and increases the Torpedo Silos' Strength by 4. This image, and the following images, show a core with both the torpedo and command upgrades.

Lance Upgrade: Replacing the 'arms' the lance upgrade increases the Lance Battery Strength, but at the cost of reducing the strength of the weapon battery, torpedo silos and launch bays.

Launch Bay Upgrade: the launch bay upgrade also replaces the arms, reducing the weapon battery, lance battery and torpedo silo strength. The launch bay upgrade drastically increases the number of attack craft that can be launched.

I still need to make a standard panel for the top and bottom of the core.

Demiurg: Battlefleet Gothic

As I am sure many of yo will know the only official Demiurg models are the commerce vessels produced by Forge World for Battlefleet Gothic.

I have a good sized collection of these ships consisting of two Stronghold Class commerce vessels and six Bastion Class commerce vessels. I played my first game with them last Wednesday. While the current ships are powerful they are expensive, give up a lot of victory points and cannot be fielded in squadrons.

I decided to expand the fleet by creating escort vessels and below are the components I have made for them. I will be casting these up so that I can make more of them.

I really enjoyed making these so I decided to build a space station too. The space station will have a main centre hub with several 'arms' extending outward. I have made it so that the arms are the same component used for the main hull pieces on the escort ships. The space stations will be stackable so that towers can be created.

Tortoise run for the first time in 60 years, at Tankfest 2011.

TANKFEST provides the public with a unique opportunity to see rare vehicles in action. This year, you’ll see the massive Tortoise tank running before the public for the first time in 60 years.

The Tank Museum’s Tortoise is now the only complete surviving example of this anachronistic machine. We believe that it was last run under its own power during gunnery trails in the early 1950’s, over 60 years ago. Its meteor engine (essentially the same as a Merlin engine of the Spitfire), still produces the same pleasing tone as it would have all those years ago. But it is a `thirsty` vehicle, with Tank Museum experts estimating that it will travel at 10 gallons to the mile.

It was removed from display in the Museum in April, from where it was towed (with some considerable difficulty) to the Workshop and undergone a thorough inspection and evaluation prior to its starring role at TANKFEST.

First Contact

I have decided to expand the Demiurg background with their first contact with the Imperium. I still need to add this into Codex: Demiurg Warhost. The Imperium currently fills an entire page spread so I'll have some re-arranging to do to fit this in.

First Contact

The first contant the Demiurg had with the Imperium was early during the Great Crusade.

The Iron Warriors Legion were dispatched to the Galactic Core to search for isolated Human worlds and bring them to compliance.

The Space Marines were expecting to find isolated systems, most likely under the yolk of an alien race, as had been the case with the majority of worlds discovered so far in the Great Crusade.

What they were not expecting was a vast, strong and independent empire of once-human colonists. Although the millennia had made drastic alterations to the Demiurg the Iron Warriors immediately recognised them as human.

The Iron Warriors sent out communications stating their itentity and proclaiming their purpose to reunite the scattered remnants of humanity, to bring them into the Imperium under the rule of the Emperor of Mankind.

While the Demiurg were eagre to make contact with their long-lost kindred and their Birthworld the Demiurg would never relinquish their independence and refuled to accept compliance.

With this clear and un-negotiable refusal The Iron Warriors immediately set about bringing the Demiurg Homeworlds to compliance by force.

Thus far in the Crusade the Legiones Astartes had yet to come across any serious challenge to their military might. They were to find amongst the Brotherhoods of the Demiurg.

The campaign that followed quickly became one of the most bitter and brutal of the Crusade. The tough and resolute defenders fought the invaders with every ounce of courage that could be mustered.

The Iron Warriors found themselves on the losing side, in the labrynthine tunnels of the Homeworlds there was little cover to be had and their Mk.II Crusade Armour poor defence against the superior weaponry of the Demiurg.

This led to the development of Mk.III power armour, commonly known as Iron Armour, with increased protection on the front. This development evened the odds for the Space Marines but the relentless fighting continued, with heavy losses sustained on both sides.

Eventually the Iron warriors were forced to realise the futility of the campaign against the Demiurg and retreated to form a defensive cordon between Imperial and Demiurg space.

Following the retreat of teh Iron Warriors the Imperiam sent envoys to the Warlords in an attempt to negotiate their compliance, feeling that the Iron Warriors negotiations failed because of their warlike nature.

The envoys quickly realised thet they would also fail to bring the Homeworlds to compliance but learned much about the Demiurg. Most important of these facts was the vast mineral wealth the Demiurg posessed.

The Great Crusade required massive resources to sustain momentum. The Imperium had begun to struggle to supply the every expanding armies and newly compliant worlds so the unprecidented decision to acknowledge the Demiurg's independence.

The Imperium immediately began trading with the Demiurg Homeworlds. The vast resources and production capabilities of the Demiurg were now at the Imperium's disposal.

The relationship between the two empires flourished. New and ancient technologies flooded into the Imperium, who continued to expand through the galaxy.

When Horus turned traitor he attempted to bring the Demiurg over to his cause but failed.

The Demiurg hold no ideals higher than honour and loyalty, there is nothing more wretched in Demiurg society than an Oathbreaker, and to break the treaties made with the Imperium was unthinkable.

Over the millennia teh Demiurg have fought against the vile forces of Chaos and immediately recognised the Warp Spawned malevolence behind the traitors' actions.

It is without doubt that with the resources of the Demiurg on his side, Horus would have made his advance on Terra much sooner and the whole course of the Herely could have gone in his favor.

After the Heresy there was much to rebuild and teh Demiurg were once again called upon for aid. Not only did they supply the crippled Imperium but even sent out engineers across the galaxy to lend their expertise and knowledge where the much reduced Mechanicum were unabel to have a presence.

In addition to lending materials and engineers to the Imperium the Demiurg Empire sent out many young Warriors to fight alonside the soldiers of the Imperial Army, now reformed as the Imperial Guard.

Codex: Demiurg Warhost - 16/05/2011

I've just uploaded a new version of the codex with the alterations listed below (what I can remember).

All of the Kroot stuff has been moved into a section on its own at the back so that it can be used separately.
I've added in the Great Knarloc Herd now as well so that's all of the Kroot units in.
Removed the scout buggy unit. It performed the same role as the Guild Trikes so was unnecessary.
Updated the Assault Cannon description to reflect the Demiurg weapon. I mean who doesn't like the thought of firing four spiralling bolts of lightning at their enemies?
Tweaked the Firestorm Missiles a bit to make them less insanely powerful; dropped them down to Heavy 4.
The Sapper Kindreds have been moved to the Elites section. I'd like to make a HQ character that can have them as troops choices but I'll have to think up background for them first.
The Tunneller special rules have been moved to the Termite bestiary entry.
There's probably more but it's been so long since I last posted an update that I can't remember.

Colossus - 13/04/2011 - Weapons Ready

I have finally got all of the weapons on the Colossus. I had to do some re-modelling of the side towers but they're on now. Below are photos of the weapon positions.

Observation/AA Deck - The top deck features the two Thunderfire Anti-Aircraft guns.

I have recently got a GI Joe Dragonhawk toy to use with my Demiurg army. I hadn't quite realised how big this thing was. After piecing it together and going over a few posibilities, including making it a massive gunship or a fully enclosed lander (similar to the Space Marine Stormbird), I decided to make the conversion very simple and use it as a carryall.

All I would need to do to the toy itself is some work on the cockpit as it is for a much larger scale. In addition I would need to making a cargo podfor it to carry, as well as a 'cradle/grabber[?]' that I could use with vehicles that wouldn't fit in the pod.

I have made up the basic shape of the pod but need to add detailing to it. Below are some pictures I have taken of it with the cargo pod.

Well it's been a while since I've posted anything new on the Colossus. I have quite short phases of inspiration so I flit from one project to another as ideas come into my head. I currently have about 50 projects on the go.

After quite some time on top of my shelves I have finally done some more work on the colossus. After re-organising my bits box, taking out all of the building and vehicle bits from the drawers and putting it all into a tool box, I found enough parts to do some of the detailing I had planned to do.

Over the last week I have added control pannels and an 'ammo lift' to the landing pad and I finally got round to drilling all of the recessed rivet holes, around 3500 of them. Here are some new pictures showing the colossus in it's current condition.

The history of the Demiurg begins with the Age of Founding. Although unrecognizable as such the Demiurg race were once human. During the period known in the Imperium as the Dark Age of Technology when humans spread throughout the galaxy from Terra, the first human colonists reached the worlds around the galactic core. Here they found vast mineral wealth including compounds smelted in the furnaces of dying suns. They discovered strange substances formed at the galaxy’s birth before the stabilisation of the laws of physics. The discovery of these almost limitless resources came at just the right time, for Terra’s own mineral wealth was by now long exhausted. The exploration and exploitation of the galactic core became imperative for mankind’s survival. Thousands of specially adapted spacecraft were dispatched to reap the harvest and with them went hundreds of thousands of miners, engineers and explorers. Soon the galactic core became the most densely populated part of the galaxy.

The original colonists were hardy miners and explorers, tough frontiers folk who dreamed of finding fabulous wealth and returning back to Terra. They dug homes for themselves in the rocky landscape, creating self-contained communities from the tunnels and load chambers of exhausted mines. Although huge cargo ships brought food with the colonists, the only way to feed the growing population was to grow nutrient rich algae in
artificially lit hydroponic tanks deep below ground. Dried and processed, this provided a basic material that could be ground into flour, retextured into coarse synthetic foods or even brewed into crude but highly potent ale.

The high gravity, harsh environment and monotonous diet gradually had their effect on the settlers. They became physically shorter and more resilient. They also became surprisingly tough for their short stature with thicker skin and dense muscles. This process must have taken many thousands of years, during which time the new race began to develop a distinctive cultural identity. They also acquired a new name - the Demiurg, often translated as half-human although the true meaning is only known to the Demiurg themselves.

The Core
The core of the galaxy hosts a black hole millions of times more dense than Sol. Ringing the black hole is an accretion disk of matter heated to immeasurably high temperatures by the forces exerted by the black hole. The matter of the disk is slowly drawn from a ring of ancient stars born in the early ages of the galaxy’s youth. The red-hued stars of this inner ring are numbered in the thousands. An outer ring of colossal stars brought into existence in the recent past, but still long before any of the races currently inhabiting the galaxy.

The planets of the Core are many and varied; from gas giants to molten metallic spheres. Amongst the planets of the Core are numerous mineral-rich desert worlds. The gravity of these worlds is great; usually two or three times that of Terra and sometimes more. These huge worlds are rich in minerals but in all other respects barren and lifeless. Those that orbit the ancient stars are shadowy, sombre places while those that orbit the young stars have surface temperatures so high of the light side that the rocky surface melts into a hemisphere spanning sea of lava. All of the worlds of the core are inimical to plant life so impossible to terraform. Barren, cheerless and inhospitable, it is hard to imagine anywhere less likely to nurture human existence.

40K For Old Men - Fail

Oh well. Due to only getting around 4 hours sleep in 5 days I was not in a suitable condition to take part in the 40KFOM Podcast Episode 8.

This means that my 'Army of the Week' slot had to be replaced at very short notice. Luckily the rest of the guys all had the Dark Eldar codex to hand. I look forward to hearing the finished episode and the guys comments on the new Dark Eldar.

Next time we will be moving onto a different game system, most likely Necromunda as there are a few of us taking part in new campaigns. Other possibilities include historical wargaming. At some point in the future we plan on having a dedicated Focused Firepower podcast.

A Brass Scorpion of Khorne supports the Imperial Guard on the right flank

The Forlorn Hope, a lone White Scars combat squad, launch the first action of the battle. Suicidally dropping in behind the Khorne Warhound and the Daemon Primarch Angon of the World Eaters. In respect of their bravery Angron gave orders the World Eaters were not to engage the unit.

The Brass Scorpion rushes towards a large troop of White Scars bikers, firing wildly with it's scorpion cannon.

The remaining bikers hold their ground before the Brass Scorpion's assault.

A Razorback of the White Scars takes aim at the Dark Eldar Revenant.

Angron launches a devastating assault against the Tyranid's Carnifex vanguard, causing hideous wounds before turning to face his nemesis; Marneus Calgar, Lord of Macragge.

After a close fought assault Angron defeats the Carnifexes and Calgar's Honour Guard and moves off to engage the Tyranid synapse creatures cowering at the rear, dropping a Vortex Grenade mid-flight. (the blast marker with a 'V' on it)

The Forlorne Hope finally receive reinforcements; a full 20 terminators and three multi-melta armed Land Speeders. Unfortunately for them the Terminators are almost entirely wiped out as they arrive by concentrated fire from both the Warhound Titan and the Space Wolves' super heavy tank.

More reinforcements arrive in the forms of Blood Angels. A Storm Raven and Terminators engage the Revenant while the rest move to engage the Warhound.

The Space Wolves tanks continue to trade fire with the Loyalist's Shadowsword.

The wounded Marneus Calgars proves his bravery by engaging and destroying a Slaughterfiend in close combat.

The Blood Angels assault manages to breach the Khorne Warhound's highly unstable reactor. The resulting explosion engulfs the titan and all those near it in a blinding ball of superheated plasma.

The power of Khorne manifests itself in the resurrected Warhound Titan.

The Tyranids launch a surprise assault on the rear of the Traitor Guard, almost wiping them out before they could react. the resurrected Warhound turned it's weapons on the new threat and reduces almost all to ashes in a single volley.

Angron accurately reading the enemy's battle plan moved into position as the Space Marines' Vanguard Veterans dropped to the battlefield. With a single sweep of his mighty chainaxe Angron renders the Space Marines' elite warriors to tatters.

With the centre entirely under his allies control Angron moves to finish off the last remaining Tyranid Warrior.

Angron casually dispatches the lone Tyranid Warrior.

On the near left flank a combined force of Space Wolves and Grey Knights move forward, finishing off the last resistance and capturing their objective.

On the far left flank a last bitter assault between the Space Wolves and Tyranids may well decide the outcome of the battle.

On the near left flank the White Scars valiantly held their ground under fire from a World Eater Hell Blade (fresh from sniping a Vindicare assassin) and Traitor Guard Leman Russ tanks.

The Warhound Titan holds the Tyranit's Super Screamer, denying the enemy a vital objective.

As the battle comes to a close Angron leaps to the aid of the Space Wolves support line.

With the far left flank still under threat the Space Wolves in the centre move to support their brothers.

The battle for Gideon Prime comes to a close With the combined force of World Eaters, Space Wolves and Traitor Guard emerging victorious.

I've been working on Angron recently, trying to get him further along before an apocalypse game on the 30th (I'll have a more pics and a battle report for that).

I have been thickening the finger ridges on the wings to make them more defined before I actually sculpt the joint details. I also tore off the armour down his arm and started again, I just didn't like the way it was before; too flimsy.

On top of that I decided on a few changes and extras.

I decided to remove the mask and replace it with the classic Khornate dog muzzle. So I grabbed my trygon and tore its jaws out. Unfortunately I'm not great at sculpting but I've done my best.

I've also decided to turn his fingers into claws and give him plate gauntlets with blades coming out of them. these will come later.

The set contains a lot of figures that are not required for the basic infantry platoon. Don't worry about wasting them. With 3 boxes you'll have enough platoons for a Company and their available machine gun platoons and mortar platoons.

The Books of Chaos

Okay, here I go again with another games design project.

I've decided to redo the Books of Chaos. The Books of Chaos was the section at the back of the last Chaos Space Marines codex to give special rules for using the specific Traitor Legions.

These have been sorely missed by Chaos fans and I thought it was about time they were updated to be used with the current codex. To begin with I will be simply updating what was in the original Books of Chaos sections for the current edition. I will also be adding in rules for Cultists and Mutant units that the Legions can use as well as rules for taking units from the Chaos Daemons and Imperial Guard codices.

Each Legion's section will have specifics for their Cultists. For example Night Lords Cultists will be so filled with fear by their masters they feel no fear from the enemy and are driven forward by their fear to tear wildly into their foes. This would mean that Chaos Cult units in a Night Lords army gain the Fearless and Furious Charge Universal Special Rules. Iron Warriors Cultists are the only ones that may be equipped with melta-bombs. The Iron Warriors would strap the charges to them and send them charging against enemy fortifications. For every melta-bomb used one cultist is removed as a casualty.

I have done the Chaos Undivided Legions so far and will be starting the other Legions shortly.

Wolves at the Gate

On Saturday I had the pleasure of taking to the field with my Demiurg army for a massive Warhammer 40,000: Apocalypse game. The game was about 40,000 points a side with one side attacking and one side defending.

On the defenders were an allied force of Eldar and Demiurg. Facing them was a combined force of Space Wolves and Chaos Imperial Guard. Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Imperial Guard, who were engaged on the planet turned to face the new threat.

Scattered Demiurg units defend their position against some of the toughest units in the opposing force.

Leading the way on the right flank the World Eaters send forth a horde of berserkers led by Kharn The Betrayer. Fighting alongside them was a pack of fearsome Slaughterfiends.

Following the World Eaters into battle came the Space Wolves.

Centre Left

A small raiding force of Eldar appear behind enemy lines to strike at the exposed rear, forcing the attackers to split their force to deal with this new enemy.

Left Flank (the drop pods are in reserve)

Mixed forces of Chaos and Space Wolves prepare their assault on the scattered Demiurg defenders.

The Eldar deploy in support of the Demiurg on the left flank.

Centre

The first wave of the Space Wolves drop pod assault lands in the centre of the defenders' lines.

Right Flank

The Demiurg and Blood Angels support sections overlooking the centre of the battlefield.

Much of the attacking World Eaters have been depleted by concentrated artillery fire from the Demiurg support weapon batteries. Two of the Slaughterfiends have been immobilised, effectively neutralising them.

Following the Ravenwing teleport homers the Deathwing arrive to block the path of the remaining attackers.

The soul engines, controlled by dead Eldar, advance into the centre to claim an objective.

The enemy on the left flank advance, inflicting heavy losses on the Demiurg defenders.

Far Left Flank

A Demiurg and Kroot scouting force ambush and destroy an Imperial Guard rearguard.

Chaos and Space Wolf predator tanks support the advancing attackers.

The Death Guard advance up the centre, pushing forward to relieve the battered Space Wolves.

With the entire Space Wolf drop pod assault now in the fight the defenders are hard pressed to hold back the enemy in their midst.

The attackers on the left flank advance relatively unopposed. The few Demiurg forces in the area valiantly move forward to engage the enemy in close quarters.

The Death Guard arrive to support the Space Wolves but their way is blocked by Demiurg and Eldar fire support units.

Centre-right

The Ravenwing and Deathwing fight a bitter battle against the World Eaters and Space wolves on the right flank.

Right Flank

The attackers reinforcements arrive to deal with the Demiurg and Blood Angels firebase. Shrike and his wing lead the way with scouts in support.

Far Left Flank

The Kroot and Demiurg scouting force are engaged by their enemy's heavy hitters. Terminators of the World Eaters move to engage the Demiurg while Byorn The Fell Handed and a unit or Sisters of Battle Seraphim squad storm the largest of the Kroot units.

Far Left Flank

The Kroot face off against the Seraphim and Bjorn before being whittled down by concentrated fire. The largest Kroot unit was engaged by both enemies and were reduced from 20 brave warriors down to just 4.

The remaining Kroot were charged by Bjorn.

Left Flank

The combined forces of the Blood Angels and Demiurg engage the advancing Space Wolf bikers while a World Eaters Hell Blade fighter swoops low to strafe the defenders lines.

The Demiurg Thunderers, fresh from felling Canis Wolfborn move their attention to the bikers.

Left Flank

Kroot Stalkers move into position, ready to add their fire in support of their Demiurg paymasters.

Right Flank

The Eldar's Revanant titan, down to its last structure point, jumped away from the Space Wolves in the centre to support the Dark Angels forces.

Centre

The Space Wolves from the drop pod assault spread out to engage the Demiurg and Eldar forces surrounding them.

Left Flank

After dealing with the Demiurg warriors in their path the Chaos forces push towards the objective supported by the Space Wolf bikers. The World Eaters dreadnought protects the rear.

Far Left Flank - Near Corner

The lone unit of Demiurg warrior holding the left corner against invading scouts are reinforced when a Blood Angels and Eldar relief force arrive.

Far Left Flank

Scouts arrive on the flank, surprising the World Eater Terminators and a unit of Demiurg sappers move forward in a suicidal bid to bring down Bjorn.

Centre-Left

The Eldar sweep along the rear of the enemy lines sowing havoc amongst their unsuspecting foes.

Right Flank

The bloody battle on the right flank heats up as the World Eater Lords tear into the Dark Angels with their daemon weapons.

Right Flank

The Leman Russ battle tanks protecting the Shadowsword move to engage Shrike's Wing.

Centre

The remaining Demiurg Warriors in the centre, under the leadership of the Ancestor Lords, stubbornly hold on despite overwhelming odds and terrible losses.

Left Flank

The Eldar Dark Reapers and Demiurg Thunderers pour fire into the advancing bikers, destroying all the bikes and wounding the attack bike.

Far Left Flank

The Demiurg Sapper Engage Bjorn while their Kroot allies move forward to engage enemies further afield.

The Kroot Carnivore Kindred moves along the rear while the poisonous Kroot Headhunters move into the ruin to engage a unit of Chos Obliterators.

Right Flank

Shrike splits off from his unit so that they can engage separate support weapon crews, wiping them both out. This leaves Shrike open to direct direct fire from the Drake's twin-linked rapier laser destroyer.

Far Right Flank

The rearguard on the right flank is attack by outflanking enemies.

The drop zone for the Space Wolf Drop Pod Assault. On the right the Demiurg robots fight a bitter close combat with their foes.

The Conquer fire support robot stubbornly battles on against three Space Wolf characters, including Ragnar Blackmane. The smaller Castellan siege robot fights in support of Eldar Howling Banshees against the remains of two units.

The Eldar continue to defend their objective while a Demiurg spotter team and Eldar Autarch finish off a Death Guard Terminator unit.

The Chaos Terminators and Chaos Space Marines disembark from their transports and move on the objective.

Far Left Flank - Rear

The Blood Angels and Demiurg warriors engage the Chaos Space Marines and World Eater Terminators.

Far Left Flank

The Kroot Headhunters assault the Chaos Obliterators while a large unit of Imperial Guard wipe out the remaining Kroot Carnivore Kindred.

The Sappers engaged with Bjorn manage to fasten a melta-bomb to his armoured body. The powerful explosive detonates, destroying the ancient dreadnought.

Left Flank

Reaching the final stages of the battle, the Eldar Scorpion boosts above the surrounding buildings to gain a better vantage point.

And there ends the game. It ended with a win for the defenders, including me! I gave away 19 kill points, mostly in the last turn. My units took some of the most severe beatings dished out but stubbornly held on, with a couple of warriors left in each unit by the last turn, but were finally defeated.

My characters performed admirably with all 3 surviving the battle. The artillery batteries played their part well, clearing much of the Space Wolves from the drop pod assault. I was surprisingly accurate with my scatter dice.

I really enjoyed the game. All the defending forces coordinated their efforts well, defending each other and catching the enemy in lethal crossfires.

Codex: Demiurg Warhost - Milestone

The download count on my codex has reached one hundred!

I hope that all those who have downloaded it have enjoyed reading it. As always feedback is always welcome and much appreciated. After a year of development and over six months of playtesting the army list is in a good condition. The majority of the units have been thoroughly playtested and balanced. There are still a few units to test out; mainly the named characters and Guild Bike Section as I have not made models for these yet.

I've been trying to get my Grymn models painted to a basic standard for the big game on Saturday. I've just done the Sapper Kindred and a couple of Spotter Teams. I've not posted pictures of these before so here they are.

Codex: Demiurg Warhost - 25/07/2010

Quite a big change this update. Below is a list of the changes I have made.

The Spotter rule has been updated to state that a single model in a unit with the rule is designated as the Spotter. The spotter rule now has the effect that support weapon batteries firing barrage weapons always reduce the scatter distance by their ballistic skill. Previously the rule allowed the artillery dice to be re-rolled instead but I have found this fits better.
The Tunneler rule has been rewritten to clarify how it works differently for infantry and vehicles.
I have updated the Domination spirit power that is unique to Ancestor Lord Ruairi Redmane. I have defined what may be targeted by the power as a single-model enemy unit, excluding vehicles and monstrous creatures. I thought that the power would be too much if it could be used to take control of such powerful units as dreadnoughts and carnifexes.
Several models leadership values have been lowered. The Guild Engineer has been reduced to Ld 9 while the Guild Master has remained at Ld 10. The leadership of warriors is now only 8 but the elder that leads them is still 9. I have also dropped the leadership of Guildsmen to 8 but have added an Engineer as their unit leader with Ld 9.
The spotter special rule has been removed from Warrior Kindreds
The Guild Trike Section has been removed. Instead up to 2 guildsmen in the Guild Bike Section may exchange their Guild Bike for a Guild Trike armed with a Heavy Stubber. The Heavy Stubber may be upgraded to either a Multi-melta or Plasma Cannon as before.
I have added a Scout Buggy unit to the Fast Attack section.
I have also added a Spotter Team option to the Heavy Support section. These spotter teams, consisting of an Elder and 2 Warriors, do not take up slots on the force organisation chart but you may only take up to one for each Support Weapon Battery in the army.
The front armour on the Wyvern has been reduced to 13 and its hull mounted Heavy Stubber has been removed. The Twin-linked Heavy Stubber mounted on a small turret has been made into a single Heavy Stubber.
The Berserker (original Squat name) Kindreds have been renamed Enforcer Kindreds to reflect their role as law enforces on the Demiurg ships.
The Miner Kindreds have been renamed Sapper Kindreds to better reflect their military role.
I have changed the Ion Carbine back to being Rapid Fire with the Demiurg being able to move and fire Rapid Fire weapons as if stationary. I prefer the escalating threat distance of Rapid Fire while still being able to fire 2 shots as close range and still charge if need be.
The Heavy Ion Blaster has been reduced from 3 shots to 2 but has gained the Rending rule like the smaller Ion blaster did in the last update. This makes them different from Heavy Bolters. I found that I was telling my opponent they were Heavy Bolters so they could understand what they did easier ruined the character of the Demiurg for me. The character of the army is my primary concern so this just wouldn't do.

I am currently feverishly painting up my infantry for a huge game of Apcalypse on the 31st. I will be on the defending side of a siege allied with Eldar and possibly Imperial Guard. I will be facing Space Wolves and Chaos. I'm not worried about the Space Wolves so much but I will be loaning my World Eaters army to one of my opponents. If you've had a look at the World Eaters section of this blog you'll know how terrifying a proposition that is. There's 16 units of Khorne Berserkers for starters.

Is the last post shows I have also started converting more vehicles for the game. The vehicle in the last post is a Wyvern Tank-destroyer converted from a 1/35 scale German Stug IV model.

I will be taking my camera along to the game so I should have pictures to show you next month. I am holding off taking pictures of my painted models until then so I can show them amongst the other 62,000 points of models.

Wyvern Tank Destroyer

I've been preparing my Demiurg army for a big Apocalypse game at the end of the month. There should be about 31,000 points a side and I'll be allied with Eldar against Space Wolves and Chaos Space Marines (including my World Eater army on loan to another player). I'm not worried about the Space Wolves but I know how nails my 16 squads of berserkers are, so I thought it was about time I got some support.

I have now converted two Thunderers with lascannons but will need something a bit tougher. With this in mind I set about making a model for a Wyvern Tank Destroyer. I bought an Academy plastic model kit of a World War II German Stug IV to convert. I still need to add detailing to the back and change a few things at the front but it's pretty much there. The picture below shows the Wyvern next to a Rhino that I'm converting into a Spartan.

A while ago the Focused Firepower developers played a game for the Battle of Crete.

I had the pleasure of fielding my Brits at their best, on high ground, heavily dug in and not losing any men by the end of the game. By the time the German forces reached my position I'd completely dug in, with a staggered deployment on different elevations so that every section could fire to full effect. For the first couple of turns I was fairly ignored (except from a damned Stuka) due to my ally running his force around in the open offering easy targets and Alan's force dropping in off table and taking an age to turn up.

When Alan's force finally arrived they appeared right next to my dug in Brits, at the bottom of the hill. He then proceeded to charge up the hill, about all he could do. I wiped his men out to the very last without taking casualties. This really illustrates how accurately Focused Firepower recreated real-life battlefield conditions.

A39 Tortoise - Weathering Again

I had done some weathering on this model before, the first time I'd ever tried it. Unfortunately when I put on the gloss varnish most of it was wiped away. I've just started to re-weather it, applying lessons learned. This time round I decided to do much more extensive weathering rather than just dust and dirt build-ups.

Time for another update on changes I've made to Codex: Demiurg Warhost.

Changed Ion Blaster back to Assault 1 but gave it the Rending ability

Changed Ironguard standard equipment and options as follows:

Plasma Carbine -> Ion Blaster
Runic Weapon -> Power Weapon
Optional ranged weapons: Plasma Carbine, Meltagun, Assault Cannon (also replaces power weapon)
Optional CC weapons: Thunder Hammer, Assault Drill, Runic Weapon
Other options: Repulsor Shield, Battle Standard

Repulsor Shield added to Wargear

Ironguard only. If you wish to use the shields every model in the unit must be equipped with them
Replaces ranged weapon
The unit may choose to activate the shields during CC once all attacks, of both sides, have been resolved. When activated all enemy models in units engaged with the Ironguard are pushed 1" away. This immediately ends the CC. Note that as the CC is ended before combat resolution neither side has won, meaning that no consolidation moves or morale tests are taken.

I have redone the Trade & Treaties section to be more in-character. I have moved the background history that I've put in the Imperial section of Trade & Treaties into Age of Betrayal on page 10. This makes the Trade & Treaties section focus more on the current relations with each faction rather than history. It has also enabled me to put in more faction specific details such as the Tyranids and Followers of Chaos. I still need to redo the Others part. I want to use it to mention a selection of forgotten/minor races.

I have rearranged the Wargear section so that all the Kroot Wargear is grouped together on one page rather than spread through the main Demiurg Wargear. I am also planning on moving the Armour section onto a page of its own so that I can have more space to put in CC weapons (I want to put in a special glaive for the Ironguard at some point, once I figure out what it'll do)

I have also moved other bits around so that I can expand The Demiurg Race section. I now have more space to go into aspects of the Demiurg social structure in more detail as well as expanding the sections on the Guilds, Ancestors and the Demiurg's relations with the Tau Empire.

I've started work on my battlecars now. I still need a pile of baneblade parts but I'm able to put most of them together before I can get the parts I need. Below is the first showing the battlecars. I decided to show all three lined up with the engine so you can get an idea of the size of them.

I also have a 1/35 leopold railway gun that will be added to the Land Train once I get round to building it.

I've added the front, back and top panels now. The platform will be removable so that's not on the model. It looks like a mini version of the Colossus just now but that is intentional, I want to keep a familiar style throughout the vehicles. Once the other structural parts are on the sides it will look considerable different from the Colossus, not to mention the fact it will have a load of battlecars behind it.

Below are a few models that Kev White at Hasslefree has been working on for a while now that I would really like to see finished so that I can get a load of them for my Demiurg army.

I think this would be perfect for my Ironguard.

This version of Kjaran would be perfect for characters with Bionics.

I love that the Grymn range has female soldiers and I would like to see them with heavy weapons. The weapon this female Grymn is carrying is used as a missile launcher in my codex.

and lastly

When this figure is complete he'll be a really dynamic character perfect for leading the Berserker units as well as being suitable for a Lord. Below is a picture of the original Hasslefresian.

I can't remember what this guy's name is but I really like the model. I used it for the initial version of a WFRP character I played a while back. He ended up as a great weapon wielding vampire thrall. In one game he picked up a cannon and shot a zombie dragon in the face with it.

My character wasn't the brightest I've played. It actually took him two weeks to realise he was a vampire.

I've just uploaded the latest version of Demiurg codex with the following changes:

Changed the Ion Blaster from Assault 1 to Assault 2.
Reduced the cost of basic Warrior and Thunderer units to 60pts, bringing them to the same cost as the Berserkers.
I've also reduced the cost of the Miners from 100pts to 80pts.
I've redone the Ironguard entry, swapping the plasma carbine and runic weapon for an ion blaster and power weapon. I changed the storm fields to refractor fields. They can still be taken as as options.
Additional models for each unit can now be added individually rather than having to double the unit size.
I've resized and rearranged the summary page so that the unit and weapon tables are side-by-side instead of being squashed one under the other. I also remembered to add the Kroot Hunting Rifle to the summary.
Changed the Kroot Hunting Rifle in the Kroot Headhunter Kindred to a normal Kroot Rifle.

Other than making changes to the codex I have started painting my infantry models. The first of the new images, the Hearthguard, is now in the Demiurg and Grymn project sections with more to come as I paint them.

I have also been working on a campaign and will put up a link to it once it is closer to being finished. The campaign is like the big summer campaigns that GW do every year. Every game played will affect their faction's standing. As well as factions for each individual force (space marines, necrons, etc) there are also factions for the Imperium, Forces Of Chaos and the Eastern Alliance. Every game will not only affect the standing of the individual factions but the alliance they belong to (if any) and and that of Order and Disorder. games between 'aligned' factions will actually damage their standing reflecting the damage caused by infighting. This should hopefully encourage players to use those armies they've collected but rarely use. I also hope that it would encourage them to play more characterful games; The loyal space marine chapters fighting their traitorous counterparts for instance, rather than boring old marine-on-marine games.
